Sizing & Care

Sizing:

Moxie Collars is not responsible for incorrect measurements. Be sure to review the sizing guidelines below and read the collar description to make sure you are ordering an appropriate width and size for your dog. We request you add your dog's neck measurement when you purchase a collar to help us make sure you are getting the right size. If you have any questions or need any assistance in determining the correct size please do not hesitate to ask!

Collar sizes are listed in length from start of the leather or biothane to the punched holes. The holes on the 1/2"  wide collars are spaced 1/2" apart from each other. (Example: 7-9" means there are holes punched at 7", 7.5", 8", 8.5" and 9") The holes on the 3/4", 1" and 1.5" wide collars are spaced 3/4" apart from each other. (Example: 16-19" means there are holes punched at 16", 16.75", 17.5", 18.25" and 19")

Choose the size that has the middle 3 holes closest to your dog's neck size. Please let me know the perfect size for the middle hole and I can make the collar to this size if it is slightly off from the sizes offered.

WIDTH: We do offer small sizes with larger widths. These are for dogs with long skinny necks like Italian Greyhounds.  Some chihuahuas may comfortably wear a 3/4" wide collar depending on their body type but this is not the case for every dog. Please consider your dog's comfort when choosing a size. I do taper the collars to smaller buckles so just make a note on your order if you have a preference.

We highly recommend you measure your dogs neck or a current well fitting collar for length as outlined below before placing your order.

How to measure your Dog’s Collar size:

  1.  You can measure your dog’s current collar from the buckle to the hole that your dog wears it at or if it is a snap collar measure the whole collar to the middle of the buckle side with the prongs.
  1. You can use a measuring tape to measure the base of the neck (above the shoulders) where the collar will sit. For large dogs make sure you can stack two fingers between their neck and the measuring tape for a comfortable fit. For smaller dogs with ½” collars one finger space is adequate.

Care:

Most of the time Moxie Collars will need little to no care. However, dogs will be dogs! If it gets dirty...

Leather: Use a dry toothbrush to brush off any dirt that might have gotten wedged in around crystals. Then take a damp rag to wipe off any other unwanted particles. To help maintain the integrity of the leather use a little bit of leather oil and wipe it all over the collar. After the oil soaks into the leather take a dry towel and wipe any excess oil off the crystals.

Biothane: Rinse under warm water and gently rub any stuck on dirt or particles. If needed use a mild detergent. Pat dry with towel.

Follow these simple steps whenever you notice your collar is getting dirty and it will keep your Moxie Collar looking like new!
